Swiss chard is a leafy green with large fibrous stalks and big green leaves. The stalks can be a rainbow of colors: white, red, orange, and yellow. The leaves range from a bright green to a purplish dark green. Swiss chard is very versatile and can grow year round (utilizing heated and unheated greenhouses in the winter).
Storage: Keep Swiss chard in a bag in the fridge for a few days. Do not wash until you are ready to use.
Preparation: Swiss chard has really good nooks and crannies in its leaves, so you want to make sure you wash it really well. One option is to soak the leaves in water for a few minutes, then rinse under running water and spin/pat dry. Eat raw or cooked.
